philippa troutman
Philippa is an artist/printmaker. She draws and paints and makes drypoints, mono-prints and etchings. She studied for a Masters Degree in Printmaking at Bradford University and now works from her studio in the Yorkshire Dales.
Her work covers a breadth of subjects and mediums. She often works with text and poetry and apprentices herself to drawing which constantly informs and grounds her other practise. She exhibits regularly, teaches and runs workshops.
Philippa’s touring exhibition, The Shanties of Ribblehead, was influenced by the social history surrounding her home and all those that had inhabited her landscape. Having read that there were no known images of the 1000s of people who lived at Ribblehead when the Settle-Carlisle railway was under construction in the 1870s, Philippa set about walking the landscape, researching old texts and contemporary historical and archeological articles and books. The resulting series celebrates the lives of the Shanty dwellers.
